Learning Our Identity

On Monday the 18th of February Whaea Monika and Whea Kerry came to our school to finish our work on our identity. We were learning about our identity. I enjoyed making a tree that had weird shapes on the end and that were laying on the ground. The next time we go I think I could do more work on it. We all got ask what we learnt while we were at the Treaty grounds and how we treat the technology. We need to put a Ngahere ( bush) in our virtual world to show were we were going to g0. Whaea Monika gave some examples of how we can make a Norfolk pine. My group inserted a cylinder and a cone to make some of our trees. We had trees that were tipped over, on angle’s, tall one’s and short. We all had to work together to make this amazing project.

Trip to waitangi

On the 8th and 9th of February the year 6’s went to the Waitangi Treaty grounds for the day. We then met the people that were going to be teaching us, their names were Whaea Monika and Whaea Kerry. We learnt how to use lots of different technology. We learnt how to use apps such as Sculpt GL, Paint 3D, Tinkercad, Stop motion, Green screen, VR and Dash robots. I enjoyed using Dash Bot because you can get it to dance and do a variety of different things. I think that the next time we go that I could be more creative. We split up into 4 groups to go for a walk around the treaty grounds. We saw a trumpet in the museum which Abel Tasman would blow, the maori chiefs thought he wanted to fight so one of the maori chiefs would blow the the Putatara declaring war against the Pakeha. Some of the people that go on the waka blow the Putatara on Waitangi day. There is armour in the museum that dates back to 1840 and there are also letters that the maori would send to the Queen (Queen Victoria). In the museum we saw a big green stone which I found very fascinating. The next day we went into the lab and had a talk about our identity, who we are, where we came from and how we came here. Together as a class we had to brainstorm ideas on how we were going to use the apps to help us best describe identity. My time at the museum has been interesting and I have learnt so many new things and can't wait to go back and learn more amazing facts.
