SCIENCE DAY

One week ago 4 people form the university of Auckland,. Kaitlyn, Nina, Taiyo and Juan came to our school to show some things that they could do with science . The whole school gathered in the whare at 10:00 to meet them for the show. After morning tea the senior classes Te Naghere, Te Maunga and Te tahuna got into to 4 groups. We went to Kaitlyn first and saw how to test water. Then we went to Taiyo and made a camera lense. After Taiyo we went to Juan and were looking at lights, we all got to wear special glasses that where ever you look you it would be rainbow colored. We then went to Nina and made rockets with a plastic bottle methylated spirits and fire.We had to make a hole in the bottom and pour in some methylated sprites in and shake it. We then suck a little bit of air into the bottle and then if we wanted to we could light it and it would then let of. I enjoyed having them at our school and getting to make a rocket.

Flubber

In Te Maunga we have made flubber. Flubber is like slime, flubber is made the same as slime. We each got to have a turn to pour or put something in the bowl. When we started to make the flubber we put half a cup of pva glue in then we had to go and get hot water. When the water came back we put 4 teaspoons of borax in the hot water. After that we started making the flubber. We put a little bit of colour in it. When the water was almost all gone we found out that there was too much water so we tried to fix it but it was not working. When it was not working we left it alone.

Promblem Solving

In Te Maunga we have been doing math problem solving.Maths Problem solving is when we get put into groups of three or four. Everyday we get a problem and figure ways to find out the answer. This term some of us put our names down for reading decimals and times, add, sub, write and making decimals. This week we have been basing it on MATARIKI (Māori - New Year.) Today's Problem was a astronaut counted a number of 53 stars and we had to see what the answer will be if we times it by 5 & 7. We have target students that are in each group and they have been learning centimeters, metres, kilometres and much more. Our Maths group collaborates but sometime I don't really use our talk moves.

At Paihia School all of the classes do a fitness rotation for 10 minutes in the morning. We are doing this to get our hearts beating faster. Having our beating faster is a good thing. One of our teachers Mrs Williams, sets the rotation up. She get children from the older class. They run it.They help do it and try to get us moving.I like best is jump jam because it fun and we don't get dirty feet. I find challenging the days when we sometimes don't know what we're doing.
